Meet the Makers

Big ideas have brilliant people behind them.

Behind every product is a young person with their own story, interests, strengths and ambitions.

Some are turning lifelong passions into products. Others are experimenting with their first business idea, exploring a creative talent or discovering a new way to earn an income.

Through Self Made Stories, we're celebrating the young entrepreneurs behind the businesses and sharing their journeys, ideas and achievements.

Because there's something pretty special about knowing the person behind what you buy.

Got an idea?
Let's make it happen.

Start your own business with Self Made Market.

You don't need a business degree, a huge following or years of experience to become an entrepreneur.

Maybe you love drawing, designing, making jewellery, creating digital products, crafting, sewing, printing or inventing something completely different.

Perhaps you're already selling your creations, or maybe you haven't made your first sale yet.

Self Made Market is designed to give neurodivergent young people aged 12–24 an accessible place to launch, showcase and grow their businesses.

How it works

From big idea to first sale.

  1. 01. Bring your big idea

Already making something? Have products ready to sell? Or just starting to explore your business idea?

We'd love to hear about it.

  2. 02. Create your storefront

Choose your seller plan, introduce yourself and your business, and set up your online shop.

Under 18? A parent or guardian will need to help with registration and the required agreements and payment arrangements.

  3. 03. Add your products

Upload your images, create descriptions, set your prices and prepare your products for customers.

You can do this yourself or choose our optional Launch With Us setup service.

  4. 04. Open for business

Once your storefront and products are approved, your creations can go live on Self Made Market.

  5. 05. Make sales and keep growing

Manage orders, fulfil purchases, learn new skills and build your business at a pace that works for you.

Learn about the awards

Built different.
For a reason.

Entrepreneurship should be accessible to more young people.

Traditional education, employment and business environments don't always recognise the strengths, interests and needs of neurodivergent young people.

But entrepreneurship can offer another pathway.

An opportunity to pursue interests, create meaningful work, explore independence and develop skills through real-world experiences.

We don't believe there's only one way to become an entrepreneur.
And that's exactly the point.

At Self Made Market, we're working towards a marketplace that is:

  • Strengths-based

Focused on creativity, interests, talents and opportunities rather than limitations.

  • Accessible

With straightforward onboarding, visual resources and optional assistance for those who need it.

  • Flexible

Young entrepreneurs can create and grow their businesses at their own pace.

  • Inclusive

Welcoming different communication styles, support needs and ways of working.

  • Youth-led

Supporting young people to make decisions and take ownership of their ideas and businesses.

  • Safe and supported

With appropriate parent or guardian involvement for minors, moderated seller profiles, product reviews and clear marketplace requirements.
